Urquhart Castle sits on a headland overlooking Loch Ness between Fort William and Inverness and although extensively ruined it remains an impressive structure and an exciting and very different wedding venue – just imagine getting married here and having these views for a backdrop.
From Urqhart Castle you are in the middle of the Highlands and perfectly situated for travels in any direction. Loch Ness and the Great Glen are visited by people from all over the world for their stunning natural beauty. In this area you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to what to do – whether that’s walking along the shores of the Loch looking for Ospreys fishing its waters, or sailing along on a Jacobite Cruise vessel, sitting peacefully gazing across the water as the sun goes down or trying out local fair in one of the many waterfront pubs or grand hotels.
Hiking, fishing, horse-riding, canoeing – outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds are well catered for around here. And, if you prefer a slightly different pace you can explore the many fascinating visitor centres, do some Nessie hunting or head back to Inverness for a gentle walk through the town which is set along the riverbank, stopping and shopping for some hand-made tartans and a good cup of coffee in one of the book shops.
Getting to Urquart is convenient – visitors can fly into Inverness airport, and then travel West via the capital of the North to the sleepy village of Drumnadrochit. While you can’t actually spend the night at the Castle itself, there are lots of options nearby – and can walk up to see the Castle at night when its floodlit – and then scoot back down the hill, past the Heilan Coos on the left (and the right!) for a supper spread that the Lords of the Castle would be proud of!
Take a sunset cruise on the Loch Ness, watching the shadows – wait, did you see something?
