Loch Maree (C)

Beauty, serenity, nature, woodlands, mountains, water – what could be more romantic? Loch Maree lies under the great hills where you will see a glorious blend of soft Scottish colours. Ceremonies at Loch Maree are undertaken by Ministers or Humanist Celebrants and arrangements for your wedding party can then be made at any number of local Inns and romantic hideaways in this area.

Loch Maree is an exceptionally beautiful and quiet place. Within the Loch itself lies Isle Maree and the sacred remains of a chapel, graveyard, holy well and a holy tree. These are believed to relate to Saint Mael Ruba who died in AD 722. The saint founded the monastery at Applecross in AD 672 but it is thought that the island had previously been linked with the Scottish druids.

If your soul needs to be outdoors when you take these special vows you will be hard pushed to beat this venue with its sweeping skies and breathtaking views. Marry your sweetheart under the great white-capped mound of Siloch under the watchful eyes of the local Golden Eagles.  Then head off to the much loved Old Inn (a Traditional Highland Coaching Inn, overlooking Gairloch harbour) where you can be sure of a friendly welcome, relaxed atmosphere, award winning local seafood, game and real ales.

Like Loch Ness, Loch Maree has its own monster in the form of the muc-sheilch. The loch is often referred to as the most beautiful loch in the Highlands.
