The wilderness of northern Scotland remains an unspoilt, remote and spectacular place. Take in breathtaking scenery from high above on paths over the jagged cliff tops; walk for miles on perfect white beaches or let the moodiness of the lovely moorlands sweep you away into your romantic hideaway.
Eriboll Estate is in Sutherland County which is deeply indented by a series of sea lochs and river estuaries. In many places the road is single-track passing through incredible scenery as it winds its way to Thurso. Getting here is a little more adventurous and takes about two hours from Inverness.
Once you are at the estate you will find that Eriboll is a paradise of sporting activities – the estate has plenty of wild game birds, salmon and trout fishing areas, and stalking for both Red Deer Stags and Hinds. There are two cottages available to let: Foulain Cottage or Posties. Foulain is a more recently built Highland Cottage with its own private beach at the foot of the heather covered hills at the head of Loch Eriboll. And Posties Bothy is a traditional workers’ cottage dating back to the 1800s which was recently refurbished. It has stunning views of the hills and is a 5 minute stroll to the rocky shore or 30 minutes by car to the spectacular sandy beaches and dunes at Cannaebean and Balnakiel in Durness or Melness near Tongue.
Ceremonies are candlelit and transform the little church into a magical and sacred place where generations of lovers have married under the watchful eye of the Highland Laird (the original Laird’s seat is still in place).
