Dalhousie Castle (C)

Half an hour south of Edinburgh lies Dalhousie Castle – a magnificent, historic baronial castle hotel and spa resort. Expanded and refurbished over the years, the castle has its original towers, dungeon and thick moat walls dating back to the 13th century when it was built as the fortress seat of the Ramsays. Edward I, King of England spent a night with the Ramsays in Dalhousie in 1296 before travelling to Falkirk where he defeated William Wallace.

From the moment you arrive at Dalhousie Castle, a warm Scottish welcome awaits. Settle in with drinks from the “secret bar” next to an open fire and browse the beautiful library and book collection. Or, if you are more of a sensualist head straight for the fabulous Aqueous Spa and indulge in a beauty treatment.

The Castle has 27 bedrooms and suites which are all distinctly different in size, layout and interior design. For a memorable stay reserve one of the 14 themed rooms, each designed with an historical style and named after Kings and Queens, heroic warriors and other famous Scottish people and places.

Ancient barrel-vaulted dungeons provide an unusual setting for a choice of fine Scottish and French cooking made from local produce, or the Orangery Restaurant offers a bright airy environment to enjoy a light snack from an extensive menu. Dalhousie castle also has its own private Chapel overlooking the meandering South Esk River .

For a truly special memory have your rings delivered on the whisper-soft wings of an owl from the Castle’s own falconry.
