Types of ceremonies

You can choose to have a civil, religious or a non-religious celebrant ceremony.

  • A civil ceremony is non-religious in nature and performed by a Registrar. It can take place at the registration office or an approved venue.
  • Religious ceremonies, performed by a Minister can take place anywhere in Scotland – inside or outside. We arrange a Minister for you at your venue and will make sure that you have direct contact with them from the beginning to arrange your ceremony.
  • A non-religious celebrant ceremony is a flexible ceremony which includes your own vows, music, readings and any other symbolic actions you choose to have as part of your ceremony. They are performed by a Humanist Celebrant who will liaise directly with you to personalise your ceremony.
